Associate Professor Boopalan Ramasamy – ‘Boopy’ – is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with a comprehensive exposure to all orthopaedic specialties, with a particular focus and interest in managing complex trauma, pelvic and acetabular fractures, infected nonunion, deformity corrections, bone loss in trauma, and complex arthroplasty.

Having worked in one of India’s top premier medical institutions (Christian Medical College Vellore), a tertiary care Level 1 trauma centre, Boopy has worked alongside large teams in multiple disciplines to help patients achieve excellent surgical outcomes. He currently works as a Staff Specialist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and holds an appointment as an Associate Professor at the University of Adelaide in the Department of Orthopaedics. He has started his PhD to Study the relationship of the Gut flora in Joint replacement infections.

Research has been an integral part of Boopy’s clinical work. He has a passionate interest in developing medical technology for the treatment of bone defects due to trauma and infection, assessment of the gut microbiota in bone infections, and the use of Stem cells for cartilage regeneration and bone healing.

His dedication to his field is also shown through his creation of magnesium alloy implants in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology, the recognition he has received with many honours and awards, his success in receiving 25 research grants for his work, and his contributions to 70 publications.  Along with Bogdan and the University of Adelaide, he continues his research to treat orthopaedic infections.

After connecting with Kush many years ago, Boopy joined the team at Adelaide Arthroplasty Clinic at the start of 2022 and is enjoying the collaboration with Bogdan and Ahmed.

You’ll find Boopy taking long walks, playing volleyball and field hockey, and spending time with friends outside of working hours.
