Professor Lucian Bogdan Solomon (Bogdan) is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in the management of complex pelvis, hip and knee conditions. A leading clinician and academic, Bogdan is passionate about improving patient outcomes. He is internationally recognised in the field and his translational research has made many important contributions that have significantly improved patient outcomes in many areas of his clinical practice. 

A compassionate clinician, Bogdan spares no effort in understanding his patients and their conditions. His approach explores alternatives that are dependent on the patient situation and response to treatment. The first steps for a successful treatment may evolve from the use of proven technologies, or a stepwise use of new technologies when old ones were proven inadequate or not available. He has vast experience, is progressive and focussed, and works within a collaborative team at the Adelaide Arthroplasty Clinic.

Bogdan is an active member in multiple international societies, including the prestigious International Hip Society (of which there are less than 100 members worldwide), and is a past chairman of the Asia Pacific Hip Society (Hip section of the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association). He is the Head of Orthopaedics and Trauma at Royal Adelaide Hospital and of the Discipline of Orthopaedics and Trauma at The University of Adelaide.

Professor Solomon leads and mentors multiple research teams including:

• clinical practice and clinical outcomes
• basic science including biological response to prostheses and infection
• bioengineering and biomechanics

He also mentors and develops our future medical practitioners, teaching medical students, junior medical doctors, registrars, fellows and higher degree students. This type of experience proves invaluable with patients, as he can translate his sophisticated knowledge of complex issues into simple explanations.

Outside of patient consultations, surgery, teaching and research (if you can believe that he has spare time), Bogdan enjoys spending time with his friends and family, spreading several continents, and taking his 2-year-old grandson on bike rides. He loves gardening, cycling, bushwalking and skiing.
