In memory of Dr Kush Shrestha
Orthopaedic Surgeon
MBBS, FRACS (Ortho), FAOrthA
Dr Kush Shrestha was an Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in the hip and knee. Kush was an integral part of the foundations of Adelaide Arthroplasty Clinic, successfully collaborating with Bogdan and Ahmed for some time, sharing outlooks and expertise, and proactively delivering best in class care.
Kush’s work in the formative years of the clinic laid a strong foundation for patient approaches, support and care in establishing the Clinic, and for our future years ahead.
Kush sadly passed in September 2021 after a battle with cancer, however prior to this his professional and personal impact was felt far and wide.
During his career he was the Deputy Head of Orthopaedic Department, Royal Darwin Hospital, a visiting medical specialist at Darwin Private Hospital and Ashford Private Hospital, senior clinical lecturer at Flinders University, clinical lecturer at Adelaide University and Director of Training for the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He continuously sought to develop his hip and knee skills – set to the highest of standards too, attending Continuing Professional Development seminars and courses in his primary area of focus.
Before pursuing public and private practice, Kush studied adult hip and knee reconstructive surgery and sports medicine in Canada and applied his expertise in rural medicine in Australia and overseas. He supported Nepalese people with post-earthquake disaster management and performed Orthopaedic operations in Antigua, Guatemala, as a participant in ‘Operation Walk’ during his fellowship training in Canada.
His compassion for those in need of access to orthopaedic treatment developed into establishing the AussieMed Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation established to support health care projects internationally, as well as humanitarian medical missions. In 2018 and 2019 he led a multidisciplinary Australian medical team to Nepal, to oversee an International Hip / Knee arthroplasty symposium.
Outside of work, Kush’s passion translated to his family. He was a proud father of three, cheering on the side of the football pitch (soccer) most weekends.
Kush will be greatly missed by his family, his work colleagues and many more, however we are grateful to have been in his presence and for his contributions to Adelaide Arthroplasty Clinic.
